About the Milbury

The well at The Milbury must date back to the oldest building on the site and is of considerable antiquity. It is 300-feet deep and was cut by hand over 800 years ago. The candles used by the well diggers are still in place on the sides of the well.

The first restoration of The Milbury took place in 1983 and a number of original features were uncovered, including the original beams in the bar ceiling.

The inglenook fireplace was covered by a small coal fire grate, with a tile surround. Five previous fireplaces had to be removed before the inglenook was revealed. The inn was renowned for smugglers and strange goings on and some say it still is!

Clive & Tanith

Tanith and Clive Cummings bought the freehold to The Milbury in April 2023 and after the first phase renovation re-opened in December of the same year. The bar offers local guest ales and an eclectic wine list. The menu is seasonal, locally sourced where possible and served in a family / sharing atmosphere. The style is relaxed, with quality and hospitality our ethos.
