This four hundred year-old building in the Parish of Beauworth is situated at the top of Millbarrow Down, a chalk down, formerly a Bronze Age barrow cemetery. Many ploughed cut barrows can be seen above the crossroads. The Milbury is at an intersection of ancient trackways and it would have been a convenient resting place for all travellers.
